A durable power of attorney is like a health care surrogate because both designations allow someone else to make healthcare decisions on your behalf if you are unable to do so. However, the durable power of attorney may involve decisions about your financial and personal matters as well. This document also gives you the ability to communicate in writing about specific treatments you would or would not like to receive.
